Aussie Motorcycle Training

With the controversy over the Mod 1 test – how do other countries develop & assess riders’ basic skills? – the foundation on which to build your riding career.

Since 1993, the Australian state of Victoria has used a skills based course with roadcraft and mental skill discussion to deliver their licence course.  To see how this would be received in the UK, Live to Ride along with MCN and Rob Smith (one of the course architects) delivered the programme to a number of MCN readers who had recently passed their test.

The practical skills in the course solely focus on cornering – at high and low speeds – braking and swerving.  This is because statistics tell us that most rural or open road accidents occur through a lack of rider skill in these elements.

Participants said they learnt more skills than on their CBT – click here to read the full MCN article
